Patterson-UTI is an oilfield manufacturing company with a 1.4-million-square-feet facility on 29 acres in Houston. Rollcon was chosen as the right contractor for the job because we had the capability to replace all of the paving necessary without ever shutting down the manufacturing facility or disrupting its operations. Rollcon provided 1 million square feet of 14” dual-left roller compacted concrete as well as 140,000 square feet of RCC for employee parking. The work was executed over three phases, allowing the facility to remain operational throughout. RCC was chosen due to its long life and durability under heavy loads. The paving we provided hardened to a compressive strength of 5,000 psi at 28 days.

SEC Industrial Park

Rollcon installed 21,000 CY of 15-inch roller compacted concrete (RCC) in place of the client’s existing aggregate-base yard. The main challenge was working around the continuous operation of the facility. The second largest challenge was the requirement to design final paving elevations of the RCC that were the same as the final elevations of the existing aggregate base. The scope of the project included milling 15 inches of the existing aggregate base, cement stabilization of the existing subgrade, and placement of 15-inch RCC. Rollcon successfully completed all four phases of the project.

S&B Engineers & Constructors

S&B Modular operates a manufacturing facility located in Baytown, Texas, where they manufacture skid-mounted components for the oil and gas industry. The facility is 30 acres and includes approximately eight acres of eight-inch RCC, 21 acres of six-inch RCC, and one acre of 14-inch RCC. Rollcon’s RCC was selected based on speed of construction and the price savings from the originally specified 20 acres of crushed-concrete base and 10 acres concrete paving.

Chevron-Phillips

Rollcon was engaged for a rehabilitation/maintenance paving project for Chevron-Phillips. The scope requested milling the in situ asphalt pavement, stabilizing, fine-grading and proof-rolling the subgrade, and installing six-inch and eight-inch RCC pavement at a working plant site. Several critical elements included strict, comprehensive, and continuous adherence to safety, limited disruption to current operations, and a speedy turnaround time from start to full use of seven working days.

Tenaris

Rollcon’s paving solution for Tenaris—Bay City was to provide over 120,000 tons of RCC pavement for a project’s average 28-day breaks at 5,500+ PSI. Rollcon provided paving for more than 2.2 million square feet of industrial roads. The durability of RCC mean Tenaris’s six-inch, eight-inch, and 14-inch RCC pavement streets can last up to 20 years without failures—more than twice as long as asphalt. RCC provides many other benefits, including minimal labor costs, high strength, low maintenance costs, and next-day traffic.

Martin Midstream

Martin Midstream operates a crude oil facility in Corpus Christi, Texas 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Crude oil is brought in from the field via truck (approximately 100 tankers per day) and is offloaded to 100,000-gallon oil tanks. Rollcon was hired to install approximately 6,555 square yards of RCC at a thickness of eight inches in the unloading area of the crude oil facility. The facility was closed for installation of the RCC, so it was critical to complete the work quickly. Rollcon worked day and night to complete the work and get the facility operational again. Roller compacted concrete was selected for use based on the speed of construction, high early strength, and the surface durability.

Pioneer Natural Resources

Pioneer Natural Resources operates a 60-acre facility in Texas that serves as base operations for their pumping services. The project consisted of approximately 50 acres of 6-inch RCC that was used in place of the originally specified 12 inches of crushed-limestone base and 10 acres of 60-inch RCC that serves as parking. RCC was selected based on our speed of construction and the significant price savings over the originally specified crushed-limestone base and asphalt/concrete paving.

Phillips 66

Rollcon delivered a turnkey pavement solution for Phillips 66. Rollcon excavated the subgrade, installed the roller compacted concrete (RCC), and then installed limestone shoulders. Rollcon designed, mixed, and installed 400,000 square feet of RCC, which included 200,000 square feet of subgrade preparation work along with 25,000 linear feet of limestone-base shoulder work. During this process, Rollcon did not interrupt any of the facility’s operations, while providing cost savings in comparison to asphalt and concrete.
